Fraud fear not rubbish 7Days - UAE News: Fraud fear not rubbish
This news was brought to you by www.7days.aeSCAVENGERS swarming on bins in Sharjah are pocketing bank details, passport copies and personal information that could be sold on to fraudsters, an expert has warned. The emirates police force and municipality are teaming up with waste management firm Beeah to crack down on rubbish robbers who are pilfering private data from the dumpsters of careless residents.Beeahs confidential document destruction expert, Walid Zabaneh, said the bin-jackers are believed to be illegal immigrants in many cases and could be passing on sensitive information to a third party for a price. He said: We do know that theres a big problem [with identity theft]. Credit card statements, passport copies, bank slips - all these things are thrown away by people at the moment and it can get into the wrong hands.Illegal immigrants are among those who are going through rubbish and they can sell this type of information onwards for money. The garbage hunters will pocket anything from mouldy potatoes to plastic cartons, so paperwork containing personal details is a jackpot for those desperate enough to delve into the stinking cesspits of Sharjah dustbins. And Beeah boss Khalid Al Huraimel said companies that do not take care of their files are also at risk. He added: Waste scavenging is very much a reality in the UAE, with those willing to go through a companys waste, in hopes of uncovering importantinformation.Experts say all paperwork containing personal information, however seemingly insignificant, can open a door to criminals intent on emptying bank accounts, cloning identities and taking cash from credit cards. This article was originally published by www.7days.ae.

It is believed a sibling of the dead children is among those in a critical condition.Abu Dhabi Police chief, Major General Mohammed Al Awadi Menhali, sent his sympathy to the family but said he was frustrated that drivers continue to ignore simple road safety rules. He said: “Despite the warning messages broadcast by police and despite the awareness campaigns, these crashes are still happening. I wish them a full recovery. But road users must take more care.”POLICE URGE SAFETYThe cause of the crash, which happened close to Bawadi Mall, is under investigation. Police have yet to confirm whether the vehicle was overcrowded or if any of the passengers were wearing seatbelts. It is believed the father was driving. The Commander of Al Ain’s traffic department, Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Balushi said: “It seems that driver of one car lost control and hit the other straight-on, causing this terrifying accident. We are again sending the message to drivers - you must be aware of dangers of the road, you must drive carefully and safely.”The crash comes just three weeks after two children were killed in a crash on the Dubai-Hatta road. The founder of Buckle Up in the Back, Lesley Cully, said: “It’s horrific. Absolutely needless. For the sake of not driving safely, wearing a seatbelt, making sure you’ve got a car seat and using common sense - this is what happens.”This article was originally published by www.7days.ae.

Woman could face affair charge 7Days - UAE News: Woman could face affair charge
This news was brought to you by www.7days.aeA man accused of raping his girlfriend after they sat boozing in a public park in Dubai was jailed for six months after the charges were changed from rape to having an illegal affair. The 34-year-old from Kyrgyzstan had denied subjecting the 24-year-old, from Kazakhstan, to the sex attack.Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday deemed the sex was consensual and jailed the man along with fining him Dhs1,000 for consuming alcohol. It is possible that the woman will also now be prosecuted for having an illegal affair. The woman had alleged that last September the man attacked her in a park in Discovery Gardens. The woman said in official records: “We sat talking and consuming alcohol. He started harassing me and kissed me. I asked him to stop but he pushed me on the ground and lay on top of me. I yelled at him but he wouldn’t stop.“He was heavy. He raped me. I ran home and called the police afterwards.” The court was told that a forensic report showed no signs of rape. The defendant had told the court: “I’m a decent man, an engineer, and I wouldn’t do that. She agreed to have sex,” he said. The defendant claimed the victim had tried to drop the charges before the first court hearing in January.ali.shouk@7days.aeThis article was originally published by www.7days.ae.
